Stay back 200 feet from lawn mowers operating at PI

poto by Ellen Soohoo

There has been lots more lawn tractor mowing cutting down foxtails at Point Isabel this week, courtesy of East Bay Regional Park District!

Whenever you see a mower, observe the safety guidelines below from EBRPD park area supervisor Scott Possin:

Mowing is still our best practice for foxtail mitigation. Other ideas and projects do not have the immediate effect that mowing does, right now, this year.

Lots of visitors are asking “what can we do to help?” The best answer: give us room when we’re mowing. We need free and clear 100 feet absolute minimum, about 10 car lengths or more. 200 feet – 20 car lengths -would be much better, safer and less stressful for the rangers operating this equipment.

A mower can sling a rock or object at least 75 feet or more. We care about your safety, and your dog’s safety!

We realize that folks, and their dogs, have favorite routes in the park. However, if mowing is happening, ideally, the best and safest path are generally the asphalt paths close to the water on the channel or on the Bay. This is true whether on the north or south side of the channel. The more space we have, the better we can keep the park maintained. It’s that simple.

Big Thanks in Advance!
