Off-Leash Heroes
In 2016, PIDO’s then board of directors dedicated plaques on the PIDO bulletin board at Rydin Road to two heroes of off-leash recreation at Point Isabel. Eleanor (“Jerry”) Yukic served for many years as PIDO’s chairperson and was involved in numerous negotiations with EBRPD, the city of Richmond, and others. Sylvia Schild founded PIDO in 1985, in response to EBRPD suddenly making the park on-leash-only. She and others spent two years negotiating with EBRPD the dog walking rules for Point Isabel that are still in effect today.
