LOST YOUR DOG?

If you lose your dog at Point Isabel, it may help to stay near your car as long as you can. (Many dogs circle back to their cars, sometimes hours later.) Post to PIDO’s Facebook group. Check with Mudpuppy’s & Scrub (510-559-8899).

The first 24 hours after you lose a dog are critical. Put up flyers right away. Post to Nextdoor, craigslist.org (“lost+found” and “pets”), pawboost.com, and dog groups and “lost pet” groups on Facebook. File reports with Contra Costa County Animal Services, Berkeley Animal Care Services, and Oakland Animal Services. Check all Bay Area animal shelters frequently.

¿PERDISTE A TU PERRO?

Point Isabel Exception
Throughout EBRPD, dogs are generally not allowed on paved trails or in “developed areas“ (such as picnic areas and food concessions). In 1987, PIDO successfully negotiated the Point Isabel Exception that allows off-leash recreational dog walking at Point Isabel Regional Shoreline on both paved and dirt trails, and in the café and dog wash areas. (Dogs must be on-leash in the parking lots.)

The only other exception — which PIDO also helped to secure, along with other dog advocacy groups — is that dogs may be walked off-leash on South Park Drive in Tilden Park during its annual winter closure (generally November through April, to protect migrating newts).
