Sabrina Landreth New GM for EBRPD

East Bay native Sabrina Landreth has been named general manager for the East Bay Regional Parks District. When Landreth starts her role on March 15, she will be the 10th GM in the district's 87-year history – and the first woman ever to hold that position for EBRPD. Landreth succeeds now-retired Robert Doyle, a mainstay with the district for 47 years, including the past decade as its GM. PIDO is looking forward to meeting Landreth and begin working with park leadership to ensure that EBRPD either buys Point Isabel or renews the park’s lease. When the USPS built its Bulk Mail Center near the shoreline, it leased the adjacent land to EBRPD as mitigation, to be used as a public park. The lease expires in 2025.

Long Wharf Leak Cleanup Complete

Cleanup efforts in the wake of the Richmond Chevron refinery oil leak at Long Wharf are completed, according to a command group of agencies. The Feb. 9 leak sent an estimated 500-750 gallons of “diesel/water flush mix” from a ¼-inch hole in a pipe into the bay, causing a brownish sheen that spread from Point Molate to Brooks Island. According to district director Elizabeth Echols, the East Bay Regional Park District had closed Keller Point for several days to test the water. It reopened Feb. 13. We’re happy to report that Point Isabel was not affected by the leak and there have been no known cases of adverse impacts on wildlife.

PIDO Marks 35 Years, Updates Look

PIDO is marking its 35th anniversary with a new logo, website, and membership drive. Its mission hasn’t changed, though: to preserve Point Isabel as a multi-use park that welcomes off-leash dog walking and other recreation. The main new logo captures several aspects of Point Isabel that visitors regard as iconic: dogs, pelicans, the cypress trees, and the breathtaking views of San Francisco, the Golden Gate Bridge, and Marin. A range of PIDO apparel is available at PIDO’s e-store, a collaboration with a local firm, DGH Outfitters, that will apply either the new PIDO logo or the vintage one.
